The Student Leadership groups led by InspirEd students recently held an impressive International Festival in the Stratford High School Auxiliary Gym. Students learned about different cultures. All presentations were put together by our very own students.

Inductions into the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society and National Art Honor Society, took place on Thursday, May 22nd. 55 students in total were inducted. Congratulations to everyone!

On Tuesday, January 30th, Jessica Teague (Veteran ELA Teacher) and Elizabeth Bourjaili (Humanities Department Chair) inducted students into Stratford High's first National English Honor Society. We congratulated these students for their achievements in leadership, community service, scholarship, character, and enthusiasm for English literature and language. Students Casey Carretta, Madelyn Randolph, and Chelsea Williams initiated interest in bringing a Chapter to SHS, and they will serve as founding officers for the 2023-2024 school year, their leadership instrumental to this organization. 38 students were inducted, grades 10 through 12, and student-created chapter names were submitted for selection from inductees. We are excited to announce the title as the "Dead Poets Society Chapter" of SHS.

Eleven SHS students attended Yale's 50th Model United Nations trip in January. These students served on 9 different committees ranging from the Economic and Social Council to NATO and the European Union/ They tackled issues such as eradicating rural poverty, closing the wage gap for women, and sustainable resource management in Antarctica. Students wrote resolutions with students who came from over 46 different countries and voted to get them passed over the course of 4 days and 6 meetings. The special guest speaker at the event was former Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

On February 10, 2024, Stratford Rotary participated in their first Four-Way Speech contest, featuring Stratford and Bunnell students. Brennan Kelly, 10th Grade, and Taylor Tunstall, 9th Grade, gave speeches on Gratitude as a means to Cultivate Happiness and the need to reconsider student perspectives on education to bring about future success. Both students were exceptional in their delivery, confident and assertive in their beliefs. Brennan Kelly placed third, receiving a $50 award. Taylor Tunstall received runner-up recognition and prizes. In attendance were Stratford Rotarians as judges, families, Bunnell teacher Ashley Ravo-Lynch, and Humanities Department chairs Elizabeth Bourjaili (SHS) and Kirsten Kovacs-Hardy (BHS).

Dr. Jennifer Brett, Director of the Acupuncture Institute at the University of Bridgeport visited Mrs. Semple's Career Development classes about a career in Acupuncture. As you can see from many of the pictures, she keeps the students engaged & entertained with her interactive presentation(s). It's so much fun to have her and the students enjoy it.

Veteran's Day celebration at SHS on November 9th. Fourteen veterans were in attendance from four branches of the military: Air Force, Army, Navy and the Marines. They shared accolades about the effort and dedication of students and faculty in honoring them at this event.
