Students in Service to the Community

Students who want to support community service efforts can make a difference through individual or group activities. The easiest way to participate is to donate or to assist with the coordination during a drive sponsored by Student Council throughout the academic year. Student Council will organize several annual drives for canned food items, coats, and more for the needy citizens of Stratford.

Additionally, any interested student can join a student organization that serves the community. For a list of current service club/student groups, speak with the Student Council president or faculty advisor. General information about individual volunteering is available from a guidance counselor or by contacting the Sterling House "Youth in the Community" representative at the school. "Youth in the Community" offers weekly office hours in the Career Center and provides information on volunteer positions from dozens of non-profit agencies in the Greater Bridgeport area. Getting Academic Credit for Volunteering Activities

Stratford Public Schools does offer academic credit for volunteering/community service work. Students who volunteer at a not for profit agency for 60 hours are eligible to receive .5 credit.

Music Parents Association

An organization of parents who volunteer their time to support the SHS Music Department and its students. For further information, please contact Dr. Mark Ryan, Music Teacher, at 203-385-4277.

Red Devil Booster Club

A support organization whose purpose is to assist the Athletic Department through the purchase of uniforms and equipment as well as providing scholarship assistance to senior student athletes. If you are interested in joining this group, or would like more information, please contact Mr. Tony DeAngelo, Athletic Director, at 203-385-4240.

Post Prom Committee

The Stratford High School Post Prom Committee consists of parents from grades 9 through 12 that volunteer throughout the course of the year to create a theme based "After Prom Party" for seniors and their guests. The purpose is to keep all the children safe after the prom with activities, prizes, food all at no cost.
