Eli Whitney's Grade 2 Students Embrace Reading with Their New Stuffed Animal Pals - Second-grade students had a unique and heartwarming experience at our "Pet Adoption Agency," where they had the opportunity to adopt their very own stuffed animal puppies. This creative initiative, designed to encourage reading at home, was met with excitement and enthusiasm by students.
Mr. Veteri guided students through a special reading oath. Each child pledged to read to their new puppy for at least 20 minutes every night, fostering a sense of responsibility and commitment to their reading goals.
The initiative aimed to make reading more enjoyable and meaningful for students by tying it to the concept of caring for a pet. By adopting a puppy, students not only felt a personal connection to their reading routine but also found a fun and interactive way to build their reading habits.

Good Afternoon Stratford Families,
On behalf of the District Head Nurse, Kim Velazquez, and the Town of Stratford Health Department -
As you are aware, "measles" have been in the news a lot recently. To keep you up to date and informed about measles as well as vaccination information, please continue to read -
The Stratford Town Health Department is open ALL DAY to take anyone and everyone wishing to receive their childhood vaccinations. No appointment needed -
It isn't just a little rash !
Measles can be dangerous, especially for babies and young children. Measles symptoms typically include:
● High fever (may spike to more than 104°F)
● Cough
● Runny nose
● Red, watery eyes
● Rash breaks out 3-5 days after symptoms begin
Measles can be serious :
● About 1 out of 5 people who get measles will be hospitalized. ● 1 out of every 1,000 people with measles will develop brain swelling due to infection (encephalitis), which may lead to brain damage.
● 1 to 3 out of 1,000 people with measles will die, even with the best care. ● It is important to note that if a measles outbreak happens in a school setting children that are not fully vaccinated for measles would need to be excluded from school for 21 days if they were exposed to the positive case. State and local health departments would work with the school district to determine outbreak plans.
● You have the power to protect your child.
Provide your children with safe long-lasting protection against measles by making sure they get the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine according to CDC's recommended immunization schedule.
