Dr. Armistead
Principal
Dr. Carla Armistead, principal of Chapel Street Elementary School, has been in public education for 29 years. She began her teaching career in 1996 in Trumbull, CT. Dr. Armistead has been an administrator for 20 years of which, 17 years have been with the Stratford Public Schools. Dr. Armistead holds a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies along with her 093 certification for Superintendent of Schools from Southern Connecticut State University. She holds a Master of Science Degree in Education, with an endorsement in elementary education from the University of Bridgeport and she holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English, with an endorsement in secondary education from Norfolk State University.
As an instructional leader, Dr. Armistead firmly believes that all students can thrive academically no matter what their social, cultural, exceptionalities or backgrounds are. She feels that it is the duty and responsibility of all stakeholders to create a safe, optimum learning environment embedded with rigor and high expectations that will support student’s academic success.
In 2017, Dr. Armistead was named Connecticut Association of Schools Elementary Principal of the Year and was recognized as National Distinguished Principal in Washington, DC. As a former recipient of this award, Dr. Armistead works with the Connecticut Association of Schools committee in search of Connecticut’s Principal of the Year. In her free time, Dr. Armistead loves to read books, engage in the culinary arts of baking and travel.
Mr. Cicero
Assistant Principal
Mr. Jason Cicero, assistant principal of Chapel Street Elementary School, has been in public education for 25 years. He began teaching 5th grade in Milford, CT in the fall of 2000. Mr. Cicero has been an administrator for 6 years. Five of those years have been as the assistant principal of Chapel Street Elementary School with one year as the interim principal of Stratford Academy-Johnson House. Mr. Cicero holds a Sixth-Year degree in Educational Leadership from Quinnipiac University. He also holds a Masters degree in Elementary Education, a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art, all from Southern Connecticut State University. Mr. Cicero also holds a certification in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion from eCornell University.
Mr. Cicero is a passionate instructional leader who seeks to harness the power of a collaborative culture and a commitment to continuous improvement in order to grow instructional capacity and increase student achievement. Mr. Cicero is a staunch advocate for children and their families. He enjoys working collaboratively alongside community partners to ensure every child's needs are being met inside and outside of the school building.
Mr. Cicero is the father of two daughters who are involved in horseback riding and fastpitch softball. When he is not watching his children compete, Mr. Cicero enjoys reading, drawing and spending time with his wife and family.
