The 5th grade students at Eli Whitney School celebrated Black History Month in a creative and interactive way with a live wax museum! In honor of the many incredible contributions made by Black individuals throughout history, 5th graders researched famous Black figures who have had a lasting impact on our world. From historical leaders to modern-day heroes, the students immersed themselves in learning about these inspiring people.

The students then took their research a step further, creating engaging presentations to share what they had learned with the entire Eli Whitney community. They dressed up as the individuals they had studied and presented their life stories from the person’s point of view, standing still as “wax figures” until someone would approach to hear their story. This unique approach made the event feel like a living, breathing museum of history, with each student becoming a part of the story they were telling.

For many students, this hands-on project was more than just an assignment—it was an opportunity to reflect on the struggles and triumphs of people who shaped history. It also allowed them to develop their public speaking and research skills while teaching others in a fun and engaging way. The live wax museum brought the Eli Whitney community together in a celebration of diversity and achievement.
