Mr. David Kennedy
Elected in 2007, Mr. Kennedy brings to the Board of Education 28 years of leadership in municipal government and human services coupled with an extensive background in community involvement and volunteerism. He has a graduate degree in educational administration and supervision, and a background in teaching. Currently he serves on the following Board of Education Committees: Curriculum (Chair), Financial Review and Planning, Finance, Chairmen’s, and Personnel. He is the Board of Education’s representative to the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE), to Cooperative Educational Services (CES), and to the Six-to-Six Magnet School. Mr. Kennedy is a 2008 graduate of CABE's Leadership Institute, and is current Chair of CABE's State Relations Committee.
Prior to becoming a member of the Board, Mr. Kennedy served on the Town Council, on the town’s Economic Development Commission, and on the Charter Revision Commission. Currently, he is a member of the Mayor’s Citizen’s Panel. He is also a volunteer forSterling House Community Center and is a member of its Ambassadors Committee. Professionally, he is Chief Operating Officer of United Way of Coastal Fairfield County. Prior to that, he was President and CEO of United Way of Norwalk and Wilton from 1989-2009.
He is married to Donna Austin Kennedy and is the proud father of three great sons: Stephen, Sean and Collin. The Kennedys have lived in Stratford for over 25 years. Mr. Kennedy is committed to working respectfully, collegially and creatively with Board and Town leaders, listening to parents, students, and the community, researching best practices from other districts, and working tirelessly to help our students have the best possible education, one that is affordable for residents and businesses.
